Portland, ME- May 17, 2019 – At the Maine Credit Union League’s Annual Meeting and Convention, credit union leaders in various categories were recognized for their outstanding service before a crowd of over 700 people at Holiday Inn by the Bay. “Our League’s awards program recognizes the exceptional work of our credit union network’s employees and volunteers,” said Cheryl Lancaster, Executive Vice President of the Maine Credit Union League. “Each day, in every county across Maine, we have credit union representatives going above and beyond to serve their communities and their members. These awards are our way of recognizing their commitment and expressing appreciation for their service. This years’ Diane L. Oceretko ‘People Helping People Award’was presented to Dan Bagley of The County Federal Credit Union.”
The background of the award– As a long-time employee at Midcoast Federal Credit Union, Diane L. Oceretko served for a number of years on the Maine Credit Union League’s Social Responsibility Committee and was active in many community-service organizations, projects and causes. Diane’s willingness to give so generously of her time and energy embodied the credit union spirit and philosophy of ‘People Helping People.’ In September 2002, Diane passed away of cancer at the age of 51. To keep Diane’s spirit alive, the Credit Union League’s Social Responsibility Committee voted to establish an award in her memory. This respected and honorable award is presented to an individual from the Maine CU Movement who is active in community-service, volunteering and goes above and beyond to help others in need.
“Dan’s contagious efforts in promoting the Souper Bowl Challenge to the Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions and to the staff, as well as his endless support of our other ‘People Helping People’ endeavors such as United Way, the Financial Fitness Fair, Ending Hunger in Maine and Special Olympics, made him an easy choice for consideration of this award,” stated Ryan Ellsworth President and CEO of The County Federal Credit Union. Shawn Anderson, Chairman of the Board of Directors echoed Ellsworth’s sentiments, “Now everyone in the State knows what we already knew – Dan is a tireless force focused on bettering peoples’ lives. We congratulate Dan on receiving this recognition and for his endless encouragement and setting the example for all of us to live up to the ideal of ‘People Helping People’.”
“I was beyond surprised and extremely honored to receive this award,” stated Dan Bagley, Executive Vice President of The County Federal Credit Union. “This award is reflective of the national credit union mission of “People Helping People” and that spirit and mission is alive and well among all of us here at ‘The County’. Working with such a great team of people makes it easy to come to work, to have enthusiasm, and to attack the issues we face in our lives and communities. I have always felt strongly that volunteering our time and giving back to our community is essential to our success as a credit union. I am extremely humbled and honored to receive the Diane L. Oceretko Award.”
