Congratulations to Homeless Services of Aroostook!

Homeless Services of Aroostook served 480 clients in 2009 resulting in 6,160 bed nights; compared to 363 clients and 4,899 bed nights in 2008.  The shelter also provided service to 62 families with children and was a safe refuge for 138 people as a result of domestic violence or a dispute.

The $1,000 award will benefit those staying at the shelter in many different ways.  For example, if a family is there with a baby and they don't have the right size diapers on hand they will be able to go out and purchase them.  Another example is to cover the cost of a taxi ride to a job interview or assist with a co-pay to see a doctor.
